fragments of a dream

almost everynight I am dreaming that we are dancing
rolling weight and touching laughter
the ease of conversing
coming easy
and the same house from the beginning
is changing itself in my dreaming
two nights ago I dreamed that all the concrete had been torn up and in the backyard was a field of soil, churned and tilled.
the raw and moist smell of earth made me smile and think "everything is better from this moment on"
I didn't know who tilled the garden for me.
a tractor hummed and rolled with no driver
and haloed by light, smiling, a man stepped forward and I knew something new.
On each wheel, I put a single seed.
to grow.
to grow.
like every morning, I wrapped my arms around the heavy trunk and looked into the leaf dappled sky, offering tobacco and gratitude. for roots and branches and constancy and change and my capacity to remember to remember how simple it can be.
